Press Release: YMCA Moldova announces grand opening of Community Resources & Development Center

Date: 23 April 2024

YMCA Moldova is excited to invite you to the inauguration of the YMCA Community Resources & Development Center in Chisinau, located at Columna Street No 106, on 2 May 2024 at 9.30 am. This event highlights YMCA Moldova’s dedication to nurturing youth and assisting young people, other members of the community, and Ukrainian refugees through innovative services and programs.

The new centre is a hub for innovation, featuring advanced facilities like the Digital Skilling and Gaming Lab, which have been realized through a significant partnership with HP Inc. This collaboration is highlighted by a generous donation from HP of over 5,300 new devices, a common initiative to promote digital equity and educational advancement among young people and marginalized communities, including Ukrainian refugees. These efforts align closely with HP’s commitment to accelerate digital equity for 150 million people by 2030. The introduction of the HP IDEA and HP Gaming Lab at the centre showcases the potent synergy between the YMCA and HP Inc. in driving community empowerment and harnessing technology for social good.

Alongside essential services like employment assistance and mental health support, the centre will host a wide array of national and international youth programs, seminars, and collaborations, solidifying its role as a cornerstone for community engagement and empowerment.

The opening day will allow guests to explore various programs and initiatives and meet with YMCA colleagues, government officials, and leaders from various sectors.  Said YMCA Moldova, “We are proud to host representatives from HP Inc., KERK in Actie, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Chisinau City Hall, YMCA Europe, and DAAC Hermes Group, among others. Each partner is crucial in enhancing our capabilities, particularly in skilling, education, and support for the local and Ukrainian refugee communities”.

Activities on the day will include a round table and interactions with beneficiaries designed to network with the YMCA’s extended team and partners. The following day, 3 May, will feature visits to the YMCA’s additional facilities in Comrat, such as the YMCA Hip Hop Club and YMCA Digital Educational Center in D. Mavrodi Lyceum, which cater to the needs of local community members, including Ukrainian refugees.

“We are delighted to unveil our new centre, which is more than a building; it’s a vibrant hub for development and connection,” said Dumitru Roibu, Executive President of YMCA Moldova. “We look forward to welcoming our esteemed guests and partners to join us in this celebration of growth and community service.”
